GAITHERSBURG, MD—“This new website portrays our company the way it should be portrayed – as a customer-service-oriented distributor of very high quality products,” said Jeff Graham, director of sales and marketing for Chesapeake Petroleum.
The new site, launched this week, represents the culmination of several months’ work by a committee of company leaders headed by Graham. From the outset, the team wanted to create a web presence that conveyed the company’s strong focus on quality products and customer service, according to Tim Sullivan, president and COO.
Special pages dedicated to the company’s 50th anniversary (this year) and its recent designation as an authorized dealer of Air1 diesel exhaust fluid products were included on the site.
“Chesapeake petroleum is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year,” said Graham. “We wanted to include a little bit of our history on a special webpage commemorating the anniversary because founder Rex Davis’s basic ways of doing business are still a big part of the way we operate.”
Davis started Chesapeake in 1961 as a Quaker State distributor and soon made a name for himself by supporting other fledgling companies in Chesapeake’s distribution chain, according to Sullivan.
Chesapeake Petroleum is the regional headquarters for Air1 by Yara, the leading producer of DEF. Air1 is the most common brand of DEF used by manufacturers in new trucks at the time of delivery to customers. Manufacturers choose Air1 because it is guaranteed to be free of impurities that can harm vehicles’ catalysts, thereby meeting the requirements for vehicle warranties, according to Graham.
The new website replaced a legacy site that was hand-coded and difficult to maintain without a content management system that allows laypeople to do routine updates to text and images.
“Who better to maintain the site than the folks at Chesapeake? We empower our customers to update their own websites by building them on platforms that are very user friendly,” said Frank Hazzard, principal of Sustainable Growth, LLC, a business consultancy based in Columbia, Md., that built the site.
“Sustainable Growth was good to work with. Frank Hazzard and his team helped us think through what we wanted our site to do for our business. The end result is much more than an online brochure,” said Graham.
